Feel the Pride!

Each Mt. Vernon school has amazing attributes and accomplishments that bring pride to the students, staff and community.  Here's just a few for Mt. Vernon Middle School:

  • Part of an “A” rated district
  • 9-time recipient of Indiana Department of Education Four Star School Distinction
  • PLTW Certified School (Design and Modeling, Flight and Space, Robotics, Medical Detectives)  
  • Six years - and still going! - Unified Champions in the Middle School as celebrated by the Special Olympics & Indiana High School  Athletic Association
  • Academic Superbowl Teams Compete across all core content areas: Social Studies, Math, Science, ELA, Spell Bowl, Academic Superbowl, Annual MV Geography Bee and Spelling Bee
  • Robotics team 
  • eSports is starting new teams that include games like Madden 25 and Rocket League
  • Over 10,100 books across several genres available in the media center, which is staffed with a certified media specialist
  • Attendance Rate regularly above 94%  / 2023-2024 Attendance rate was 94.78%
  • National Junior Honor Society centers on Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship, and Character
  • 28 Athletic Teams win multiple county and conference titles each season 
  • Over 600 students (more than 50% of the student body) participate in athletics every year.
  • $10 million renovation included Fieldhouse with two full courts, spectator seating, and 8 Basketball Goals, with a divider curtain (2018)
  • 2 Gymnasiums, Baseball Field, Softball Field, Football Field, and Swimming Pool
  • 20 clubs, including a new Drama Club (2021) or extracurricular opportunities
  • Performing Arts area renovated in 2021-2022 includes state-of-the-art band and choir facilities and expanded cafeteria.

  • Full-time SRO on site
  • DARE middle school curriculum, new to the district. Presented to 8th graders during wellness
  • Enriching "Walk on Water" 8th-grade cross-curricular project

  • All staff trained in Trauma-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)
