Marauder Memo - August 25, 2024

Posted Date: 8/25/24 (8:33 AM)

August 25, 2024
Parents,

With school pictures and our first NWEA testing window behind us, we are entering the rhythm of the school year. In the coming weeks, we will share information on our parent/teacher connection day. You can expect to receive video information from teachers and an opportunity to connect with teachers virtually or face-to-face on that day.

We will continue to focus on our TBRI term of Redo this week and next. Resilience is a key trait we aim to build in our students, and the concept of a 'Redo' is central to this. When your child faces a setback, we encourage them to view it as a chance to learn and try again. This not only helps them academically but also in their personal development. By supporting this idea at home, you’re helping your child build the resilience needed to overcome challenges and succeed in life.

Have a great week!

Attendance Policy
New Attendance Policy
Parents/guardians, please be aware of our attendance policy. Absences fall into three categories: excused with documentation, parent/guardian verified (without excused documentation) and unexcused. Please refer to the infographic for details.

For students in kindergarten through sixth grade, parents/guardians should be aware of new legislation effective July 2024 that requires adherence to updated attendance policies. If a student in these grades accumulates five parent/guardian verified or unexcused absences within any 10 consecutive weeks (as indicated in the gold or red columns):
  • Parents/guardians will receive immediate written notice of the 5 absences without excused documentation within a 10-week period.
  • A parent/guardian meeting will be requested within 5 days of the most recent absence.
  • During the meeting, a Student Attendance Plan will be developed.

Please refer to the absences infographic for detailed information on the repercussions of absences.

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent from school please notify us by one of the following methods:

If a student is going to be absent from the school for the day, parents/guardians have the responsibility to notify the attendance secretary by 10:00 am with verification of the absence. Documentation of absences must be received within three days of the absence. An illness of three days or longer will require doctor verification for the entire absence to be excused. When a student is absent for a full or partial day due to a doctor, dental, or another appointment(s) a school excuse note from the provider will be required for the absence to be excused.

MVMS PTO
2.5 weeks down and we're going strong! A huge thank you to all of the MVMS families who attended our Dine to Donate at Los Agaves last Monday. The event was a great success. We are also ecstatic over the amount of parents and friends who have stepped forward to support the PTO in various ways from volunteering their time, to donating to our group, and acting on new and exciting ideas to celebrate our staff and students. Should you have any questions for us or if you would like to join the crew, please reach out at mtvernonmiddleschoolpto@gmail.com. Our next meeting is at 6pm in the Media Center at MVMS on 9/11/2025. Hope to see you there!
