Marauder Memo - Sept 8, 2024

Posted Date: 9/08/24 (8:25 AM)

MVMS
September 8, 2024
Parents,

During the month of September, we are focusing on our TBRI Life Value Term of “Be Kind”. This week, our intention lies in Staying Calm and Being Present. In stressful moments, staying calm and being present can help your child feel more secure. Taking deep breaths, listening to their concerns, and staying engaged can ease their worries and foster a sense of safety.

We are approaching the mid-point of the quarter. This week is a prime time to review your child's grades and progress with them and set goals for the end of the quarter. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers for ways to support your child academically at home.

Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

Attendance Policy
New Attendance Policy
Parents/guardians, please be aware of our attendance policy. Absences fall into three categories: excused with documentation, parent/guardian verified (without excused documentation) and unexcused. Please refer to the infographic for details.

For students in kindergarten through sixth grade, parents/guardians should be aware of new legislation effective July 2024 that requires adherence to updated attendance policies. If a student in these grades accumulates five parent/guardian verified or unexcused absences within any 10 consecutive weeks (as indicated in the gold or red columns):
  • Parents/guardians will receive immediate written notice of the 5 absences without excused documentation within a 10-week period.
  • A parent/guardian meeting will be requested within 5 days of the most recent absence.
  • During the meeting, a Student Attendance Plan will be developed.

Please refer to the absences infographic for detailed information on the repercussions of absences.

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent from school please notify us by one of the following methods:

If a student is going to be absent from the school for the day, parents/guardians have the responsibility to notify the attendance secretary by 10:00 am with verification of the absence. Documentation of absences must be received within three days of the absence. An illness of three days or longer will require doctor verification for the entire absence to be excused. When a student is absent for a full or partial day due to a doctor, dental, or another appointment(s) a school excuse note from the provider will be required for the absence to be excused.
