Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome to the second semester of the school year! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable holiday season with your loved ones. As we begin this next chapter, we are excited to continue partnering with you to ensure every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.

This semester brings new opportunities for growth, learning, and success. We encourage you to stay connected by checking school communications regularly, attending upcoming events, and reaching out with any questions or concerns. Your involvement plays a vital role in your child’s experience at MVMS.

Together, we can make the second half of the school year as productive and positive as possible. Thank you for your continued support and for being an essential part of our school community.

Have a great week!

Counseling Department Survey
MVMS Counseling Department strives to have a data-driven school counseling program that meets the needs of our students. One way that we work to achieve this is through a student survey. Surveys are created through the IDOE. Students will take the survey during Success on January 15th. They are anonymous and students can refuse to answer any and all questions. If you would like to view the survey, please click here.

Please contact your student's school counselors if you would like them to opt out of the survey.

Chromebook Protection Plan
Just a reminder that the window to purchase a Chromebook protection plan is now open through January 3rd. For $25 you can be sure that your child's Chromebook is protected from any accidental damage for the rest of the 2024-2025 school year. For more information, please refer to the ParentSquare post that the Technology department sent out.

Not sure if you purchased this at the beginning of the year? You can visit the Skyward Family Access and go to Fee Management to see if you paid in August.

"Because of You..."
We all know that Mt. Vernon teachers and staff show up every day to support each and every student. These “Because of You…” postcards provide an outlet for parents, community members, and other employees to recognize and appreciate any Mt. Vernon staff member! Now anyone can share a kind message to a bus driver, teacher, cafeteria worker, instructional assistant, custodian, or any staff member. You may fill out as many staff appreciation cards as you like--for free.

 Nurse's Corner
Medication Drop-Off:
The nurse is usually in her office from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Dropping off medication for a student can be tricky after 3:00 PM due to the car rider line forming and SR-234 being closed in front of the school. Lunchtime (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM) is a busy period in the clinic, so if you drop off medication during this time, please be aware that your visit may take longer.

Asthma/Allergy Action Plans:
I am still missing several students' asthma and allergy action plans. If these forms are not submitted, your child(ren) may be excluded from field trips. These forms must be signed by both you and your physician. They are available on our website here.

Water Bottles/Food:
It is helpful if students bring a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated throughout the day. It is also important that they have a good breakfast in the morning before school.

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent from school please notify us by one of the following methods:

If a student is going to be absent from the school for the day, parents/guardians have the responsibility to notify the attendance secretary by 10:00 am with verification of the absence. Documentation of absences must be received within three days of the absence. An illness of three days or longer will require doctor verification for the entire absence to be excused. When a student is absent for a full or partial day due to a doctor, dental, or another appointment(s) a school excuse note from the provider will be required for the absence to be excused.
