Marauder Memo - January 12, 2025

January 12, 2025
Parents,

We were grateful to be able to reconnect with students over the past week as we began the second semester of the school year. The TBRI approach teaches us that connection is key. Before addressing a behavior, take a moment to connect with your child. A calm voice, a gentle touch, or simply getting on their level can make all the difference. Once they feel safe and understood, a "redo" becomes a chance to learn, not a punishment. Team talks this week focused on refreshing behavior expectations throughout the building in order to teach students MVMS behavioral expectations.

Have a great week!

Celebrating Our Students of the Month: Mastering "Accept No"
We're proud to announce our Student of the Month winners who have exemplified our Life Value Term: Accept No. These outstanding students have shown remarkable maturity and respect in their interactions with teachers. These young leaders have proven that accepting "no" from teachers is a crucial part of the learning process. They understand that sometimes limitations are set for their benefit and growth. By respecting these boundaries, they've not only improved their own educational experience but have also contributed to a more positive and cooperative classroom environment.

Counseling Department Survey
MVMS Counseling Department strives to have a data-driven school counseling program that meets the needs of our students. One way that we work to achieve this is through a student survey. Surveys are created through the IDOE. Students will take the survey during Success on January 15th. They are anonymous and students can refuse to answer any and all questions. If you would like to view the survey, please click here.

Please contact your student's school counselors if you would like them to opt out of the survey.

Impact of Technology
This recording from HopeAlight will provide an overview of how technology impacts the brains and behaviors of our children along with many TBRI-based strategies to support brain health as well as emotional and mental health. With several data resources available now, we are understanding more deeply how technology is impacting this new generation and we hope you find this resource helpful to empower and equip you as you manage your teen's usage of technology.

Nurse's Corner
Medication Drop-Off:
The nurse is usually in her office from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Dropping off medication for a student can be tricky after 3:00 PM due to the car rider line forming and SR-234 being closed in front of the school. Lunchtime (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM) is a busy period in the clinic, so if you drop off medication during this time, please be aware that your visit may take longer.

Asthma/Allergy Action Plans:
I am still missing several students' asthma and allergy action plans. If these forms are not submitted, your child(ren) may be excluded from field trips. These forms must be signed by both you and your physician. They are available on our website here.

Water Bottles/Food:
It is helpful if students bring a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated throughout the day. It is also important that they have a good breakfast in the morning before school.

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent from school please notify us by one of the following methods:

If a student is going to be absent from the school for the day, parents/guardians have the responsibility to notify the attendance secretary by 10:00 am with verification of the absence. Documentation of absences must be received within three days of the absence. An illness of three days or longer will require doctor verification for the entire absence to be excused. When a student is absent for a full or partial day due to a doctor, dental, or another appointment(s) a school excuse note from the provider will be required for the absence to be excused.
