Middle Schoolers—Don’t Sleep on Sleep!🌙
Did you know that middle school students need 8–10 hours of sleep each night to feel their best?
Sleep is essential for:
  • Boosting memory and focus
  • Supporting emotional well-being
  • Helping your body grow and repair
  • Improving performance in school and sports

☀️ Summer is a great time to build healthy routines that include staying active during the day, winding down at night, and getting enough rest. Balanced habits now can set you up for success when school starts again.

Let’s make this summer one to remember—full of movement, color, rest, and growth!

Have a great week!

DIY Tie-Dye T-Shirts

🎨 This Week’s Activity: Tie-Dye Time!

Get creative and colorful by making your own  tie-dye project! Whether you’re jazzing up a t-shirt, tote bag, or socks, this is your chance to express your style and enjoy some hands-on fun.
  • Materials: White cotton shirt, socks, or other item, fabric dye (in different colors), rubber bands, plastic squeeze bottles, gloves.

  • Steps: Use rubber bands to twist and fold the shirts in different patterns, then apply fabric dye in various colors. Let them dry and wear your unique, colorful creation!
Directions

Focus on….Math and ELA

Connect the Dots to Math and ELA

  • Math Component: If you are using multiple colors, calculate how much dye you’ll need for each color based on the size of the shirt or the design you’re making. You could also explore the math of the design—how symmetrical or asymmetrical you want the patterns to be and how that affects the number of folds.

  • Writing Component: Write a creative description of the design process, what inspired your tie-dye pattern, and how you choose your colors. Reflect on the experience of making the shirts and what you learned about color mixing.

Motivational Incentive

Share a picture of your tie-dye shirt or item here for a chance to win a Cirkul water bottle!

MV Reads: News from the Library

Does your student have a favorite sport or hobby? Try finding a biography at the library that matches up!  Reading about the life of a famous athlete, scientist, artist or explorer can be very inspiring.  Help your student think about what they may want for a career in the future.  Some popular biographies for middle schoolers are shown below.
