Back to School

The first day of school is August 6th! Get ready for an exciting year ahead filled with new learning experiences, friendships, and opportunities for growth.

Monday, August 4th - Back to School Night

Student Schedules will be available in Skyward on Monday, August 4th. We recognize that all MV schools are holding back-to-school nights on the same night. If you are able to attend at the times below, this will help with congestion in the building and the parking lots. However, if you need to attend at a different time due to family needs, we understand and are happy to see you at any time!

Last names A - L 4:00 - 5:30 PM
Last names M - Z 5:30 - 7:00 PM

Wellness Uniform

This year, we are asking students to change into a consistent wellness uniform for PE to support a more active and focused learning environment. The uniform is designed to ensure all students are dressed appropriately for movement, promoting safety, comfort, and full participation in physical activities. Having a consistent PE uniform also helps support personal hygiene and encourages a sense of routine and responsibility. Most importantly, it reflects our commitment to student wellness by helping every student feel prepared and confident during class. The clothes for PE can be worn in class for the week and laundered at home when necessary.

Design a Personal Time Capsule

  • Materials: Box or container, paper, small items that represent your current life (photos, letters, trinkets).

  • Steps: Collect items that reflect who you are right now, write a letter to your future self, and seal everything in a box. Decide when you’ll open it—maybe in a year or a few years—and bury or store it somewhere safe

Directions

Focus on….Math and ELA

Connect the Dots to Math and Writing

  • Math Component: Calculate the age you will be when you open the time capsule. If you plan to open it in 5 or 10 years, calculate how old you will be and how much time will have passed since you sealed the capsule.

  • Writing Component: Write a letter to your future self to include in the time capsule. Describe your current life, interests, goals, and hopes for the future. When you open it, reflect on how much has changed or stayed the same.

Motivational Incentive

Share your experience creating a personal time capsule here for a chance to win a $25 Starbucks gift card and gift mug.

MV Reads: News from the Library

Looking to actually purchase books for your students without breaking the bank? Check out Thriftbooks.com or Betterworldbooks.com.  Both have great selections of used books at reasonable prices.  If you want to shop in person there is a Half Price Books on 86th Street in Indianapolis.  Ollie’s has a location in Anderson with a great book department. Last but not least check out your local Goodwill.  The prices are modest and you can support a good cause. There are locations in Fishers and Greenfield.  Both of our local libraries, the Hancock County Public library and the Vernon Township public library each periodically have used book sales.  Check their websites for more information.

Hope you have had a reading-filled summer and we will see your students soon!

Connection to the Community

The Hancock Flat 50 is a fun, family-oriented biking event that promotes fitness, outdoor activity, and community spirit. It's a great way for middle schoolers and parents to stay active together while supporting local trails. Learn more at hancockflat50.com.
