Families,
It’s hard to believe we are already in the final week of the first quarter. The start of this school year has been nothing short of incredible. Our students have worked hard in the classroom, shown growth in their learning, and celebrated many successes on the athletic fields and in extracurricular activities. We are so proud of the way they have stepped into this school year with energy, resilience, and a commitment to doing their best.
As we move into the fall season, I hope your family is able to enjoy some time to rest, recharge, and make meaningful memories together over break. Thank you for the many ways you partner with us to support your child and our school community. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to begin the next quarter strong.
Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

8th Grade Families,
Our district requires additional information on the academic needs and performance of
individual students in order to ensure that the school corporation is providing instruction at the
appropriate level for each child.
Depending on the information needed, your 8th grade student may be administered a screener for the CogAT high abilities assessment. This screener is a short 45 minute test and will be given in October.
Please refer to the website below for practice and sample questions:
If you have questions regarding the testing, please contact:
Thank you!

Our 8th graders are headed to Washington, D.C.! This exciting three-day adventure includes visits to Arlington National Cemetery, the White House, Smithsonian museums, and a night tour of the monuments. Want all the details? Cost, itinerary, chaperone info, and payment schedule can be found in the D.C. Trip Information Packet.
Be sure to review it with your student and secure your spot soon—space is limited!

Please ensure that students who are car riders arrive at school with enough time to be in their 1st period class by 8:45 AM. Timely arrival helps set a positive tone for the day and ensures they don’t miss important instruction. Thank you for your support in helping students start their day on time!

Hello Parents,
Our district is required to complete hearing screenings at MVMS for all 7th graders and new-to-the-district 8th graders. The district SLPs conducted hearing screenings for MVMS students at the open house on 8/4/25 so that students would not have to miss class time for the screenings. However, a number of students were not screened at the open house. Parents may opt out of these hearing screenings if they wish; however, we want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to receive a hearing screening if parents choose.
If you would like to have your student's hearing screened, please fill out the Google Form below. An MVMS speech therapist will then briefly pull your student from class for the screening. These screenings will take place during our second quarter (late October to mid-December). Thank you for your time.

If you are in need, please fill out this form by Wednesday, October 29th. Baskets will be dropped off at the middle school on Monday Nov 24th. If you have any questions, please reach out to kaitlin.baldwin@mvcsc.k12.in.us. Thanks!!

Medication Drop-Off:
Medications can be dropped off from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Dropping off medication for a student can be tricky after 3:00 PM due to the car rider line forming and SR-234 being closed in front of the school. Lunchtime (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM) is a busy period in the clinic, so if you drop off medication during this time, please be aware that your visit may take longer.
Asthma/Allergy Action Plans:
I am still missing several students' asthma and allergy action plans. If these forms are not submitted, your child(ren) may be excluded from field trips. These forms must be signed by both you and your physician. They are available on our website here.
Water Bottles/Food:
It is helpful if students bring a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated throughout the day. It is also important that they have a good breakfast in the morning before school.
Be Prepared: It’s a great idea to keep a small personal kit on hand during your menstrual cycle. Consider including items like pads , wipes, and even a change of clothes—just in case.
New Students: If you're new to the school, please make sure to turn in your vaccination form as soon as possible. This helps us keep everyone safe and up to date!

Our PTO has always played a vital role in shaping the MVMS experience for both students and staff—and now, we need your help to rebuild and reenergize this important group.
From teacher appreciation events to student celebrations and field trips, many of the things our kids look forward to most wouldn’t be possible without a strong PTO. When families get involved, the impact is felt throughout the entire school community.
Whether you’re a planner, a helper, or just someone who cares deeply about making MVMS the best it can be—we’d love for you to join us. Every contribution makes a difference!
Let’s work together to make this year unforgettable for our students and staff!
Join us for our next PTO meeting - September 10, 2025 (Virtual)

We’re excited to participate in the Box Tops for Education program through General Mills. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents — and those dimes add up quickly!
When possible, please cut Box Tops from your packages and send them to the Main Office. The funds raised will help us purchase groceries and cooking supplies for our Family & Consumer Science (FACS) classroom.
Thank you for your continued support — every Box Top helps!
