Hello MVMS Families,
Next week, Mt. Vernon Middle School will join schools across the nation in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, a time to promote healthy, safe, and drug-free lifestyles. Each day will feature fun themes and activities that encourage students to make positive choices for their minds and bodies. We invite families to join the conversation at home by talking with your student about what it means to live with purpose, kindness, and self-respect. Together, we can help our students grow into confident, healthy young people who make choices they can be proud of!
Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

Peer tutoring will be offered after school on Wednesdays from 3:10pm - 4:00pm in Room B204. There will be mini-lessons at the start of tutoring to discuss topics such as organization, using a planner and many other tips for having a successful school day. High school NHS students will be paired with middle school students to work on homework, missing assignments or to review topics in math and ELA. Students will need to be picked up at 4:00pm in the front of the building.
If you are interested, please complete this form. Spots will be limited due to having enough high school tutors to support students. I will send a follow up email after I receive the form to let you know if your student has a spot. Thank you for your request.

Students who chose to attend Monster Mash on Thursday after school must bring $5 and must be picked up by 5:15pm. Students who are not picked up by 5:15pm may be excluded from future events. Follow normal car rider procedures

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) requires that all students in grades 3 through 8 participate in three ILEARN checkpoints in addition to the ILEARN summative assessment in the spring each year. These checkpoints are a component of the ILEARN through-year assessment for English/Language Arts (ELA) and math. The checkpoints occur seasonally in fall, winter, and spring. Each checkpoint has 20 to 25 questions to show how an individual student is performing on key skills and concepts from the Indiana Academic Standards. Our fall checkpoint is scheduled for Monday, November 3rd (ELA) and Tuesday, November 4th (math).
Each family will receive an access code that grants them access to the Family Portal in order to receive student’s results. Please refer to the attached guide for further information

After reviewing our options and considering a variety of factors, Mt. Vernon Middle School will not be taking the traditional 7th grade trip this year.
This decision was not made lightly. We know the trip has been a memorable experience for students in the past, and we recognize the disappointment some may feel. However, after reviewing the logistics, costs, and overall goals of the trip, we determined it is not the best fit for our current students and programming at this time.
Our focus remains on providing engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that build teamwork, responsibility, and connection. We are exploring other opportunities for our 7th graders later this year that align with those goals and will share more details as we are able to finalize plans.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership as we work to create meaningful experiences for all of our students.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
To help us ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we kindly ask that you review and update your child's emergency contact information. Having accurate and current contact details allows us to reach a responsible adult quickly if needed.
In addition, we are implementing a new sign-in/sign-out process through our Raptor system. Keeping your emergency contacts up to date will help streamline this process and reduce delays when students are signed in or out during the school day.
Please take a few moments to log in to Skyward and verify or update your child's emergency contacts by November 14th.
Thank you for your prompt attention and for helping us maintain a safe and efficient system for our school.

Medication Drop-Off:
Medications can be dropped off from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Dropping off medication for a student can be tricky after 3:00 PM due to the car rider line forming and SR-234 being closed in front of the school. Lunchtime (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM) is a busy period in the clinic, so if you drop off medication during this time, please be aware that your visit may take longer.
Asthma/Allergy Action Plans:
I am still missing several students' asthma and allergy action plans. If these forms are not submitted, your child(ren) may be excluded from field trips. These forms must be signed by both you and your physician. They are available on our website here.
Water Bottles/Food:
It is helpful if students bring a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated throughout the day. It is also important that they have a good breakfast in the morning before school.
Be Prepared: It’s a great idea to keep a small personal kit on hand during your menstrual cycle. Consider including items like pads , wipes, and even a change of clothes—just in case.
New Students: If you're new to the school, please make sure to turn in your vaccination form as soon as possible. This helps us keep everyone safe and up to date!

When possible, please cut Box Tops from your packages and send them to the Main Office. The funds raised will help us purchase groceries and cooking supplies for our Family & Consumer Science (FACS) classroom.
