Hello MVMS Families,
At Wednesday’s PTO meeting, Seth Hamilton, MVCSC Director of Technology (and MVMS parent!), presented on how to parent in a social media age. He covered multiple ways that parents can monitor their child’s technology usage in order to provide “training wheels” for them to navigate their digital world. Visit our district online safety page ( MVCSC Online Safety) to learn more about Qustodio (a free resource provided by MV), tools on the district technology homepage, how to leverage built-in phone controls, and tools to manage the parameters of your child’s cell phone. A huge thank you to Seth for sharing his expertise.
Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

As part of our Veterans Day program, we are honoring our nation’s heroes by also showing respect to our flag.
If you have an American flag that is worn, faded, or damaged, we invite you to send it in with your child (on or before Veterans Day) for a proper retirement.
A collection container will be available during the Veterans Day program so that we can retire our community’s flags appropriately.
This tradition ensures that old flags are retired with the dignity and respect they deserve—a symbol of our gratitude to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

The Fall NJHS service project will be a canned food drive. All donations will go to the Fortville Area Resource Mission. This project will be beneficial because it will help those less fortunate in the Fortville community. The Mt. Vernon Middle School first-period classes will compete to see which class can donate the most nonperishable foods for this project. The winning class will receive a donut party. Some of the canned foods needed include cereal, canned soup, canned fruit, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly, and rice, but everything is welcome. The competition will run from November 10-21, and members from NJHS will tally the donations twice a week. The National Junior Honor Society would love everyone to partake in this project.

Peer tutoring will be offered after school on Wednesdays from 3:10pm - 4:00pm in Room B204. There will be mini-lessons at the start of tutoring to discuss topics such as organization, using a planner and many other tips for having a successful school day. High school NHS students will be paired with middle school students to work on homework, missing assignments or to review topics in math and ELA. Students will need to be picked up at 4:00pm in the front of the building.
If you are interested, please complete this form. Spots will be limited due to having enough high school tutors to support students. I will send a follow up email after I receive the form to let you know if your student has a spot. Thank you for your request.

After reviewing our options and considering a variety of factors, Mt. Vernon Middle School will not be taking the traditional 7th grade trip this year.
This decision was not made lightly. We know the trip has been a memorable experience for students in the past, and we recognize the disappointment some may feel. However, after reviewing the logistics, costs, and overall goals of the trip, we determined it is not the best fit for our current students and programming at this time.
Our focus remains on providing engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that build teamwork, responsibility, and connection. We are exploring other opportunities for our 7th graders later this year that align with those goals and will share more details as we are able to finalize plans.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership as we work to create meaningful experiences for all of our students.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
To help us ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we kindly ask that you review and update your child's emergency contact information. Having accurate and current contact details allows us to reach a responsible adult quickly if needed.
In addition, we are implementing a new sign-in/sign-out process through our Raptor system. Keeping your emergency contacts up to date will help streamline this process and reduce delays when students are signed in or out during the school day.
Please take a few moments to log in to Skyward and verify or update your child's emergency contacts by November 14th.
Thank you for your prompt attention and for helping us maintain a safe and efficient system for our school.

Our 8th graders are headed to Washington, D.C.! This exciting three-day adventure includes visits to Arlington National Cemetery, the White House, Smithsonian museums, and a night tour of the monuments. Want all the details? Cost, itinerary, chaperone info, and payment schedule can be found in the D.C. Trip Information Packet.
Be sure to review it with your student and secure your spot soon—space is limited!

Medication Drop-Off:
Medications can be dropped off from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Dropping off medication for a student can be tricky after 3:00 PM due to the car rider line forming and SR-234 being closed in front of the school. Lunchtime (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM) is a busy period in the clinic, so if you drop off medication during this time, please be aware that your visit may take longer.
Asthma/Allergy Action Plans:
I am still missing several students' asthma and allergy action plans. If these forms are not submitted, your child(ren) may be excluded from field trips. These forms must be signed by both you and your physician. They are available on our website here.
Water Bottles/Food:
It is helpful if students bring a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated throughout the day. It is also important that they have a good breakfast in the morning before school.
Be Prepared: It’s a great idea to keep a small personal kit on hand during your menstrual cycle. Consider including items like pads , wipes, and even a change of clothes—just in case.
New Students: If you're new to the school, please make sure to turn in your vaccination form as soon as possible. This helps us keep everyone safe and up to date!

We’re excited to participate in the Box Tops for Education program through General Mills. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents — and those dimes add up quickly!
When possible, please cut Box Tops from your packages and send them to the Main Office. The funds raised will help us purchase groceries and cooking supplies for our Family & Consumer Science (FACS) classroom.
Thank you for your continued support — every Box Top helps!
