Hello MVMS Families,
My apologies that this newsletter did not go out as scheduled on Sunday. We do have an after-school event tomorrow until 5:15pm. There are posters around the building so students should be aware. If your child is staying for the event, please make sure you are in the car rider line at 5:15pm. Please follow staff directives for pick up to ensure students' safe dismissal.
Student safety is our first priority - in and out of the school building. While situations like this are rare, we want to share an important safety reminder. If you ever receive information that a student may be at risk of harming themselves or others outside of regular school hours, please know that staff members' emails are not consistently monitored during evenings and weekends. Should this situation ever happen, we strongly encourage you to call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, or call 911 or your local emergency services immediately to ensure timely support and care. Thank you for partnering with us in keeping our students safe and supported.
Students participated in ILEARN Checkpoint #2 over the past two weeks. You can access the ILEARN parent portal to retrieve your child's results. Questions regarding access can be directed to Kim Zeis (kim.zeis@mvcsc.k12.in.us). Questions regarding your child's performance should be directed to his/her math or English teacher.
Our staff do an incredible job supporting students every day in so many ways. As part of our Q3 Wellness Challenge, staff are participating in a Bingo challenge with raffle prizes. If you’re able, please consider visiting the PTO Amazon Wish List to donate items for the raffle or everyday needs for the staff lounge.
Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

Our school life value terms help guide positive choices each day: Redo, Be Kind, Focus on Your Task, and With Respect.
In February, MVMV’s social-emotional lessons will focus on our life value term Be Kind. Students will learn about empathy, inclusion, and using kind words and actions to support one another. Together, we’re building a caring and respectful school community.

- Feb 23-27- High School counselors will come to MVMS to meet with 8th graders for one on one scheduling meetings.
Catfishing Awareness
We want to remind families to talk with students about online safety, especially catfishing—when someone pretends to be someone else online. This can happen on Social Media Platforms or Gaming Platforms. Encourage your child to be cautious about who they interact with, avoid sharing personal information, and let a trusted adult know if something online feels confusing or uncomfortable. Open conversations at home help keep students safe and confident online.
National Kindness Week is Next Week!
Let’s spread kindness, one small act at a time!
Thursday 2/19 – Hat Day for a Cause
NJHS students are sponsoring a Hat Day to raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital. For just $1, students may wear their favorite hat to school (please note: hoods are not included). Every hat makes a difference—thank you for supporting a great cause!
Friday 2/20 – Heart Dance & Wear Red
Join us for the after-school Heart Dance and show your kindness spirit by wearing red in honor of National Kindness Week. More details about the heart dance to come!
Let’s come together to celebrate kindness, generosity, and school spirit all week long!
Care Closet:
This closet is filled with various “basic needs” items for our Mt. Vernon Middle school students. More and more students visit the counseling department needing toiletries, clothing, food, etc. When our students’ basic needs are not met they are unable to learn. We will be forever grateful for any donations!! Please take a look at our Amazon wish list. Thank you in advance for helping our students! ❤️

Important School Reminders |
We are running very low on spare clothes in the nurse's office. If anyone has any gently used pants/ leggings/ shorts for women or men to donate we would greatly appreciate it! It is always a good idea to pack an extra set in your child's backpack as well because we don't have much to give out!
Thank you,
Angela and Katie, MVMS nurses

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent, please notify the school by 10:00 AM using one of the following methods:
Important Notes:
- Absence documentation must be submitted within 3 days of the absence.
- If the student is sick for 3 or more days, a doctor’s note is required for the absence to be excused.
- For any doctor, dental, or other appointments, a provider’s excuse note is needed for the time missed to be excused.
Picking Students up Early
If your student needs to be picked up early, please notify the school ahead of time to ensure a smooth process:
Please include the following in your message:
- Student’s name
- Name of the person picking student up
- Time of pickup
Parents, please be aware: We close the entrance off of State Road 234 at 3:20 PM for our car rider line. If you plan to pick up your child early, please do so before 3:20 PM, as the entrance will no longer be accessible after that time.
***For safety reasons, individuals must be at least 18 years old to sign a student out of school.***
