MVMS

February 22, 2026

Hello MVMS Families,

Thank you to everyone who donated items to support our staff through the PTO Amazon Wish List. There are still items remaining, so please visit the Amazon Wish List to donate items for the raffle or everyday needs for the staff lounge.
As a portion of Kindness Week, students posted encouraging messages on lockers and raised almost $250 for Riley Children’s Hospital. MVMS students regularly exhibit kindness to each other in ways big and small - We are so proud of them!

We are seeing a recent increase in intentional damage to student Chromebooks. Specifically, students are removing keyboard frames and picking individual keys off of their devices. This type of damage is not accidental and results in costly repairs, loss of instructional time, and limited device availability for students who rely on them daily. Please reinforce expectations of proper care and responsible use of school technology. Please remind your child that:

  • Chromebooks are school property and should be handled with care at all times.
  • Removing keys or tampering with the keyboard frame is considered intentional damage.
  • Students may be held financially responsible for repairs resulting from misuse and void any accidental damage coverage.

Thank you for helping maintain our Chromebooks so they remain available and functional for everyone.

Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

Counseling Corner
Our school life value terms help guide positive choices each day: Redo, Be Kind, Focus on Your Task, and With Respect.

In February, MVMV’s social-emotional lessons will focus on our life value term Be Kind. Students will learn about empathy, inclusion, and using kind words and actions to support one another. Together, we’re building a caring and respectful school community.
announcements
  • Feb 23-27- High School counselors will come to MVMS to meet with 8th graders for one on one scheduling meetings.

Catfishing Awareness
We want to remind families to talk with students about online safety, especially catfishing—when someone pretends to be someone else online. This can happen on Social Media Platforms or Gaming Platforms. Encourage your child to be cautious about who they interact with, avoid sharing personal information, and let a trusted adult know if something online feels confusing or uncomfortable. Open conversations at home help keep students safe and confident online.

Care Closet:
This closet is filled with various “basic needs” items for our Mt. Vernon Middle school students. More and more students visit the counseling department needing toiletries, clothing, food, etc. When our students’ basic needs are not met they are unable to learn. We will be forever grateful for any donations!! Please take a look at our Amazon wish list. Thank you in advance for helping our students! ❤️

Important School Reminders

From the School Nurse

We are running very low on spare clothes in the nurse's office. If anyone has any gently used pants/ leggings/ shorts for women or men to donate we would greatly appreciate it! It is always a good idea to pack an extra set in your child's backpack as well because we don't have much to give out!
Thank you,
Angela and Katie, MVMS nurses

Reporting an Absence

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent, please notify the school by 10:00 AM using one of the following methods:
Important Notes:
  • Absence documentation must be submitted within 3 days of the absence.
  • If the student is sick for 3 or more days, a doctor’s note is required for the absence to be excused.
  • For any doctor, dental, or other appointments, a provider’s excuse note is needed for the time missed to be excused.

Picking Students up Early
If your student needs to be picked up early, please notify the school ahead of time to ensure a smooth process:
Please include the following in your message:
