Hello MVMS Families,
Welcome back from break!
Welcome back! I hope your family had a wonderful and restful spring break. As we return to school, it’s easy to start looking ahead to the end of the year and all of the exciting events that come with it. While we do have many celebrations on the horizon, it’s important to remember that we still have 25% of the school year remaining, and there is important learning still ahead.
In the coming weeks, our students will participate in ILEARN testing, which gives them an opportunity to demonstrate the growth they have made this year. We are proud of the hard work our students have shown and encourage them to stay focused, keep strong learning habits, and finish the year well.
We are also looking forward to several end-of-year celebrations and milestones, including special activities for our 7th and 8th grade students. More details will be shared as those dates approach.
Thank you for your continued support in helping students stay focused, engaged, and ready to finish the year strong!
Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

Did you know that our local Psi Iota Xi sorority is donating the profits from their spring flower sale to the MV school libraries? See the note from Psi Iota Xi below
“With all schools budgets being tightened, the funding for the school libraries is being reduced. One of the three main goals for the Psi Iota Xi sorority is to support literature. This year, Psi Iota Xi has a goal to donate $6,000.00 from the profits of the flower sale to Mt. Vernon school libraries. Your flower purchase will help us reach this goal! Your flower purchase has the potential to touch each MV student! Thank you for your support!”
Email your order to tkirby@myninestar.net or call one of the committee members listed on the flyer. Payment on pick up, cash or check.

Our school life value terms help guide positive choices each day: Redo, Be Kind, Focus on Your Task, and With Respect.
In March, MVMS’s social-emotional lessons will focus on our life value term Focus on Your Task. Students will learn about distractions and how to limit distractions at school and at home.

Catfishing Awareness
We want to remind families to talk with students about online safety, especially catfishing—when someone pretends to be someone else online. This can happen on Social Media Platforms or Gaming Platforms. Encourage your child to be cautious about who they interact with, avoid sharing personal information, and let a trusted adult know if something online feels confusing or uncomfortable. Open conversations at home help keep students safe and confident online

Important School Reminders |
- Bring Your Device Daily: Chromebooks are a required instructional tool. Students should bring their device to school every day, just like a textbook or notebook.
- Charged Chromebooks: Students are expected to bring their Chromebook to school fully charged each day. Uncharged devices significantly disrupt learning time.
- Care of Devices: Students will use the same Chromebook for the next two school years, so careful handling is essential. This includes keeping devices protected, clean, and free from damage.
Thank you for partnering with us to help students stay prepared and responsible. These small habits make a big difference in maximizing learning time for everyone

Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent, please notify the school by 10:00 AM using one of the following methods:
Important Notes:
- Absence documentation must be submitted within 3 days of the absence.
- If the student is sick for 3 or more days, a doctor’s note is required for the absence to be excused.
- For any doctor, dental, or other appointments, a provider’s excuse note is needed for the time missed to be excused.
Picking Students up Early
If your student needs to be picked up early, please notify the school ahead of time to ensure a smooth process:
Please include the following in your message:
- Student’s name
- Name of the person picking student up
- Time of pickup
Parents, please be aware: We close the entrance off of State Road 234 at 3:20 PM for our car rider line. If you plan to pick up your child early, please do so before 3:20 PM, as the entrance will no longer be accessible after that time.
***For safety reasons, individuals must be at least 18 years old to sign a student out of school.***

Every 3 years, Hancock Health asks residents and those connected to our community to tell us about the health issues affecting our county.
Your input is vital to Hancock Health’s community health strategy for the next three years. Together with our community partners, our goal is to create better services and address barriers to improved health and well-being for everyone living or working in Hancock County.
Please take a few minutes to tell us what is important to you. Share the link with your friends and family. Must be at least 14 years old to complete the survey.
