Marauder Memo - April 5, 2026

MVMS

April 5, 2026

Hello MVMS Families,

Please check with your children to make sure they have the supplies they need to end the year strong: paper, pens and pencils, and wired earbuds. While spring fever may be setting in, continue to build strong habits - like charging their Chromebook nightly, tracking their assignments and due dates, and having a routine for completing homework at home. We want to maximize all the time we have left with our students.

There are water bottle fillers at all water fountain stations in the building. Please make sure your child has a water bottle to use - especially if they have Wellness - so they are not passing germs by placing their mouths on water fountains.

ILEARN Testing will occur on the following dates.
Tuesday, April 21st - math
Thursday, April 23rd - ELA part one
Friday, April 24th - ELA part two

All students will need wired earbuds or headphones for ILEARN. Please make sure students have earbuds at school on testing days.

Have a great week!
Dr. Lori Katz, MVMS Principal

Attendance & Learning

Why showing up matters for learning

Middle school learning builds day by day. When students are present consistently, lessons connect more easily, skills grow stronger, and confidence increases. Even missing a few days a month can make it harder for students to keep up — especially in reading, math, and problem-solving.
Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to stay engaged, succeed academically, and feel capable as learners.

Support Our School Libraries with the Psi Iota Xi Spring Flower Sale

Did you know that our local Psi Iota Xi sorority is donating the profits from their spring flower sale to the MV school libraries? See the note from Psi Iota Xi below

“With all schools budgets being tightened, the funding for the school libraries is being reduced. One of the three main goals for the Psi Iota Xi sorority is to support literature. This year, Psi Iota Xi has a goal to donate $6,000.00 from the profits of the flower sale to Mt. Vernon school libraries. Your flower purchase will help us reach this goal! Your flower purchase has the potential to touch each MV student! Thank you for your support!”

Email your order to tkirby@myninestar.net or call one of the committee members listed on the flyer. Payment on pick up, cash or check.

Dates to Remember:
April 8th- Peer Buddy applications are due.

Catfishing Awareness
We want to remind families to talk with students about online safety, especially catfishing—when someone pretends to be someone else online. This can happen on Social Media Platforms or Gaming Platforms. Encourage your child to be cautious about who they interact with, avoid sharing personal information, and let a trusted adult know if something online feels confusing or uncomfortable. Open conversations at home help keep students safe and confident online.

Care Closet:
This closet is filled with various “basic needs” items for our Mt. Vernon Middle school students. More and more students visit the counseling department needing toiletries, clothing, food, etc. When our students’ basic needs are not met they are unable to learn. We will be forever grateful for any donations!! Please take a look at our Amazon wish list. Thank you in advance for helping our students! ❤️
