April 12, 2026

Hello MVMS Families,

Next week is our last full week of instruction before students take the ILEARN assessment. Students have continued to learn and grow through the year, and we are so proud of what they know and can do. Let’s stay focused through the finish.

MVMS will serve as a 2026 Midterm Primary Election Early Voting Center from April 15th - May 4th. The Hancock County Sheriff's Department will help with traffic flow school days. Please continue to use our normal car rider pick-up procedures on these days.

If you are a family who utilizes the car rider line, please review the procedures below.

Attendance & Friendship

School is where social skills grow

Middle school is a critical time for learning how to build friendships, collaborate, and resolve conflict. These skills aren’t learned from a worksheet — they’re practiced through daily interactions.
When students are absent often, they miss chances to connect, which can make it harder to feel included or confident socially. Regular attendance helps students stay connected to peers and feel like they belong.

Dates to Remember:
April 30th at 9:30am- 26/27 school year new student optional tour date.

Catfishing Awareness
We want to remind families to talk with students about online safety, especially catfishing—when someone pretends to be someone else online. This can happen on Social Media Platforms or Gaming Platforms. Encourage your child to be cautious about who they interact with, avoid sharing personal information, and let a trusted adult know if something online feels confusing or uncomfortable. Open conversations at home help keep students safe and confident online.

Care Closet:
This closet is filled with various “basic needs” items for our Mt. Vernon Middle school students. More and more students visit the counseling department needing toiletries, clothing, food, etc. When our students’ basic needs are not met they are unable to learn. We will be forever grateful for any donations!! Please take a look at our Amazon wish list. Thank you in advance for helping our students! ❤️
